FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Picture
Q. How fast will Arrow arrive on the site of a residential fire or flood?
A. Our usual response time is approximately two hours. We can assure you that we will respond in 24 hours or less. We assemble and brief our team, then drive one or more of our specially marked "Arrow Fire Vehicles" to the location.

Q. Does your team clean carpets and wash walls?
A. Arrow does clean area rugs and drapes. The Arrow Fire Restoration business specializes in household soft goods clothing and bedding, for example. Other specialists handle home furnishings, walls, furniture, carpet cleaning, reconstruction, painting, and the like.

Q. Who decides what items receive the restoration treatment?
A. Just as your household items are unique to you, each job is different. Each smoke or flood damaged item is evaluated for its potential restoration. Recoverable goods are bagged for transport. Excluded items, perhaps of sentimental value, may be added at the customer's request. The team leader takes the hand-documented list and enters it into a computer database providing an inventory that the insurance claims adjuster and the homeowner can review.

Q. Flooding is different than fire so what does Arrow do to remedy water-damaged goods?
A. Water damages tend to be dirt, sometimes sewage, frequently mold and mildew if the leak or flood moisture is allowed to remain without drying. The ozone room at Arrow Fire & Water Restoration will be the first step to begin the cleaning. Washable items will be laundered in a fabric safe agitation with commercial detergent while drycleanables will also receive the appropriate care using safe drycleaning methods with special additives to remove mold and bacteria.

Q. How do you remove smoke and other odors?
A. Our laundering process is approximately 5 times more effective than laundering through your home washers.  This is due to the amount of cycles our machines perform during the cleaning process as well as using detergents that have been specially formulated to target smoke odors.  If any odor still lingers, we will then utilize the ozone machine to dissipate any remaining issues with odor.

Q. What is Ozone?
A. Ozone, (O3), sometimes called "activated oxygen", contains three atoms of oxygen rather than the two atoms we normally breathe. Ozone is the second most powerful sterilizer in the world and can be used to destroy bacteria, viruses and odors. Interestingly ozone occurs quite readily in nature, most often as a result of lightning strikes that occur during thunderstorms. In fact the "fresh, clean, spring rain" smell that we notice after a storm most often results from nature's creation of ozone.

Q. How does Ozone work?
A. The third oxygen atom of ozone makes it extremely reactive. This atom readily attaches itself to other odor molecules. When contaminants such as odors, bacteria or viruses make contact with ozone, their chemical structure is changed to less odorous compounds. As more ozone attacks the remaining compounds, the odor is eventually destroyed. This process is called oxidation. Ozone essentially reverts back to oxygen after it is used. This makes it a very environmentally friendly oxidant.

Picture
Q. Do drycleanables get the ozone treatment?
A. Yes. Silks, woolens and most synthetics, such as used in men's and women's fashions are perfect candidates for ozone treatment.

Picture
Q. What happens to the clothing that you cannot get clean?
A. Our experience gives us a good idea of what can be restored for usability. Our representative will advise you, based on that experience, and you can make your own disposition decision. If we remove household items and clothing for cleaning, we will make every attempt to restore the item.

TURNAROUND TIME & STORAGE

Picture
Q. When will my clothes be done?
A. We recognize that certain items are needed almost immediately. With customer assistance, selected baby and children's clothes, blankets, adult clothing, bedding and linens are processed within two to three days to allow you to normalize your life as soon as possible.

Picture
Q. Can you store my clothing until I am back at my permanent address?
A. We will work with you and your insurance company to return your clothing and household items in a timely manner. If you find that you will be out of your residence for a substantial period of time, we do offer storage until you are ready to move back in.
